Our Union with Christ

I. What is union?
Close relation
Brought together in harmony with out blurring of distinct parts
It is intimate life

II. Union with Christ in eternity past
Covenant of redemption (John 6:37-41)
God’s eternal decrees (Tit 1;2-3)
Election and Predestination (Eph 1:3-7)

III. Union at the cross
Forensic Penal Substitutionary atonement (rom 3:23-30)
Crucified with Christ (Gal 2:20)
Christ living and dying in our place (Rom 5:19)

IV. Legal Union
Justification by faith alone (Rom 5:1)
Adoption (Gal 4:5)

V. Spiritual Union
Intellectual union (1 Cor 2:16)
Vital Union (Rom 6:1-4)
Mystical Union (Eph 3:17-21)

VI. Union in Sanctification
Think as Christ does 1 Cor 2:16
Feel as Christ does Phillip 2:5
Love what Christ love John 13:34-35
Hate what Christ hates Rev 2:6

The goal is to be like Christ. This is only way to truly live, everything is pseudo life

I. God is Invisible
God is Spirit Non-Spatial and atemporal John 4:24, 1 Tim 1:17
No one can see God in His fullness, John 1:18, 1 John 4:12
Not even in Glory 1 Tim 6:16

II. We love the one we can not see
We love God who we can not see (1 John 4:20)
We love Christ who we can not see at this time (1 Pet 1:8)
We born again by the Spirit which is not seen (John 3:8 )

III. Why is God not seen by the natural eye
So that we will not die (Exodus 33:20)
So that Great Commission can be fulfilled (Matt 28:20)
So that we have a sure hope (Rom 5:1-5)

IV. We are to look to the invisible
A. We changed from glory to glory by the spirit (2 Cor 3:16-18)
B. Even though the natural man dies we have eternal life (2 Cor 4:16:18
C. Trust God who raises the dead (2 Cor 1:7:10)
